EFCC bows to pressure, grants VDM bail, divulges reasons for arrest

-

Martins Innocent Otse was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following multiple allegations of financial wrongdoing and his continued refusal to respond to formal invitations for questioning, EFCC has stated.

In an official release on Tuesday, the EFCC stated that several petitions had triggered the investigation into Otse, who repeatedly failed to appear despite being contacted through his known communication channels.

The anti-graft body urged the public to withhold judgment, saying, “Let the EFCC do its job without bias,” and assured that legal proceedings would commence upon the conclusion of its probe.

Despite Otse’s past verbal attacks against the Commission, the EFCC maintained that its decision to arrest him was solely based on the alleged offenses.

“His inflammatory remarks are regrettable but unrelated to the arrest,” the Commission stated.

The agency confirmed that a valid court order was obtained to keep Otse in custody while investigations proceed, affirming that all actions taken were within legal boundaries.

Otse has been granted administrative bail and will be released as soon as he meets the outlined conditions.
