In what appears to be a fatal case of jealousy and long-standing animosity, Muhammad Ma’aba, a resident of Fujeregi village in Niger State, has died following a violent assault.

Local informants revealed that Ma’aba was attacked along the route between Saganuwa and Fujeregi.

The group of attackers was allegedly led by Alhaji Yikangi of Chikan village, who was once married to Fatima Suleiman, the woman Ma’aba was reportedly set to marry.

The conflict stemmed from Yikangi’s refusal to accept Fatima’s decision to move on, despite having divorced her three times a final separation under Islamic principles that forbids reconciliation unless specific conditions are met.

The Niger State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the police were informed of the assault around 2 PM on April 17, 2025.

According to his statement, Ma’aba was beaten into a coma over a dispute involving Fatima Suleiman and died shortly after being taken to Lemu General Hospital.

Abiodun added that authorities are intensifying efforts to bring everyone involved in the crime to justice.
