Kano APC welcomes Kwankwaso’s possible return, demands apology for past criticisms

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has expressed openness to the potential defection of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, but insists that a public apology for his previous remarks about party leaders is necessary.

At a press briefing held on Friday in Kano, APC state chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, acknowledged the growing speculation surrounding Kwankwaso’s departure from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and his possible return to the APC.

Abbas stated that while the party is committed to its “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which includes welcoming defectors from various political groups, it believes Kwankwaso’s return is an inevitable choice as he has alienated himself from other political factions.

“Our party is open to receiving members from all political backgrounds,” Abbas remarked.

“The APC remains the last viable platform for Senator Kwankwaso, who has lost his standing with other groups across the nation.”

He emphasized that the party had directed its ward chapters to accept new members, regardless of their political affiliation or status, in line with APC’s constitution.

“We advise anyone wishing to join to register at their local ward. Elected APC officials at all levels will continue to serve according to the terms of their office, as outlined by our party’s rules,” he added.

However, Abbas expressed concern over the motivations of some defectors, particularly those who are seeking political relevance after tarnishing their reputations elsewhere. He firmly stated that the APC would not support any form of divisive factions or cult-like groups.

Furthermore, Abbas called on all prospective returnees, especially those who have criticized the APC leadership in the past, to publicly apologize for their comments.

He stressed that such an apology would demonstrate respect and sincerity in moving forward with the party.

“We expect those who have previously made derogatory statements against President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to offer an apology,” Abbas said. “This would be an important step toward building respectful future relations.”
