One kidnapped as gunmen attack Kano community

A group of armed men launched an attack on Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State on Thursday evening, abducting the son of a well-known businessman.

The incident occurred around 7pm, as the assailants stormed the area and fired several shots into the air, causing panic among residents.

An eyewitness, Ibrahim Faruruwa, said the attackers appeared to be targeting Alhaji Haruna Halilu, a prominent trader in the area. However, he was not at his shop at the time of the invasion.

“Since they didn’t find Alhaji Haruna, they took his son, Mas’ud, instead,” Ibrahim explained.

The Kano State Police Command has acknowledged the incident. According to the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, investigations have begun and more details will be shared as the probe progresses.

At the time of reporting, it remains uncertain if there were any casualties or additional kidnappings during the attack.
