Court orders release of boy who stood before Obi’s convoy months after detention

The Apapa Magistrate Court has granted freedom to 17-year-old Alabi Quadri, who became a viral sensation ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections.

Quadri’s rise to fame occurred when he was seen standing in front of Peter Obi’s convoy, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Following a thorough review of the case, that falsely accused the boy of being an armed robber, Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi announced that the minor would be released, acting in accordance with the legal counsel provided by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The decision underscores the importance of the DPP’s guidance in ensuring a fair and just legal process for the teenager.
