Nigerian police slam officers filmed collecting cash from foreigners, begin disciplinary action

A group of police officers caught in a viral video accepting money from a Chinese citizen are facing internal disciplinary measures, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police described the behaviour of the officers as highly inappropriate, stating that it goes against the ethical and professional standards the Force upholds.

“The incident has drawn strong condemnation from the police leadership,” Adejobi noted.

“The video in circulation clearly shows unprofessional conduct which the Force finds unacceptable.”

According to the statement, the implicated officers have been traced and subjected to the Force’s internal disciplinary process.

The police also issued a warning to individuals and organizations who use officers for escort or guard services, urging them to avoid any action that could compromise the integrity of personnel or bring disrepute to the institution.

Adejobi reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on unethical behaviour, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public trust and professional integrity.
