Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected efforts by some party governors to remove him from office, insisting that his position was secured through a national convention and cannot be taken away by a select few.
Reacting to the recent resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum, which appointed an interim secretary in his place during a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, Anyanwu described the move as unconstitutional and a direct violation of the party’s rules and the country’s laws.
He emphasized that he remains the legitimate National Secretary and plans to return to his office at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja after the Easter holiday.
“This is not the first time some individuals have tried to bypass the party’s constitution and court orders,” he stated.
“The party’s National Legal Adviser even told the governors that their decision was wrong and that the Supreme Court had ruled on this matter.”
Anyanwu also disclosed that his lawyer had submitted the Supreme Court’s judgment to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), making it clear that only documents signed by him and the party’s national chairman can be recognized.
He warned that any attempt to use another signature could create serious legal issues for the PDP and its candidates.
Meanwhile, a group under the PDP banner known as the PDP Frontliners has cautioned against the governors’ actions.
In a statement jointly signed by its President, Engineer Abdulraheem Garba, and Publicity Secretary, Gabriel Adekoya, the group warned that such internal power struggles could weaken the party’s unity and electoral strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
