Security operatives have successfully rescued Augustine Madubiya, a final-year student at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, who was recently kidnapped from his off-campus hostel.
This was confirmed on Thursday by Abdulrahman Zagga, Director of Security at the state’s Cabinet Office, who said the student was found in the Dakingari forest within Suru LGA after police tracked the abductors’ movements.
Zagga stated that medical personnel are currently evaluating the student’s health condition following the rescue.
Following the operation, Deputy Governor Umar Tafida, Police Commissioner Sani Bello, and Vice Chancellor Zaiyan Muhammad visited the site of the abduction.
Tafida emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard students, saying the rescued student is in safe hands and receiving care.
Police Commissioner Bello explained that the pressure from law enforcement forced the abductors to flee, leaving their victim behind.
He added that no money was exchanged for the student’s release.
The university’s Vice Chancellor raised concerns over the limited number of hostels available on campus, urging support from philanthropists and the public to help ease the burden.
Authorities promised to ramp up security measures around the university to ensure such incidents do not reoccur.
