Following a string of violent attacks in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate deployment of tactical teams and advanced security assets to the troubled areas.
This was made known in a statement on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who noted that the intervention follows deadly assaults that began on March 28 in communities under Bokkos Local Government Area.
The police chief’s directive, according to the statement, reflects a strong commitment to ending the cycle of violence, safeguarding lives, and ensuring those behind the attacks are brought to justice.
To oversee the operation, the IGP has assigned Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Yakubu, to lead the mission.
The reinforcements include elite tactical squads, modern surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers, operatives from the Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and specialized units from the Special Intervention Squad.
Adejobi explained that these resources will be used to carry out targeted operations aimed at halting further attacks and dismantling the criminal networks responsible for the ongoing unrest.
The statement recounted that the violence erupted late last month when armed groups struck Bokkos, leaving several people dead and many others injured.
What started as a single incident soon escalated into repeated attacks that have claimed numerous lives and left entire communities in distress.
Recognizing the scale of the crisis, the IGP instructed the deployed team to take a comprehensive approach—one that focuses not only on addressing current threats but also on putting preventive measures in place to avoid future violence.
Upon arriving in Plateau State on April 8, DIG Yakubu met with the state governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, where he conveyed condolences from the police leadership to affected families and communities.
The visit also served as a platform to better understand the situation, assess security needs, and collaborate on long-term solutions.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its resolve to work closely with the state government, traditional rulers, security agencies, and relevant groups to bring lasting peace to the area.
Citizens were encouraged to assist by sharing information that could support ongoing investigations and security operations.
