2027: Atiku confirms ADC as new political platform for opposition forces

-

In a major political shift, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been adopted as the official party for Nigeria’s emerging opposition coalition, as confirmed by Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former vice president.

The decision follows a high-level meeting on Tuesday night in Abuja, where key figures from various opposition camps resolved to rally around the ADC as their shared political platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election cycle.

Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, who attended the meeting, disclosed its occurrence during an engagement in Kaduna on Wednesday, stating, “The coalition met at 8 p.m. yesterday. The aim is to ensure President Tinubu is not re-elected in 2027.”

Speaking through his spokesman Paul Ibe, Atiku confirmed the ADC’s adoption, explaining that committees are already at work to address any unresolved issues and finalize the coalition’s internal structure.

Ibe clarified that the previously mentioned SDP was only a temporary placeholder to absorb certain political elements.

He emphasized that ADC was chosen because it fulfilled all the coalition’s expectations.

“The leadership of the alliance knew what they wanted in a party, and the ADC matched those needs,” he said.

Though the coalition has not yet settled on a presidential candidate, sources say the process will now begin in earnest.

All aspirants are expected to compete fairly, with a collective understanding that the eventual nominee will receive full support from all stakeholders.
