U.S. seizes over $200,000 in crypto linked to Hamas funding network

The U.S. Department of Justice has confiscated around $201,400 in cryptocurrency intended to support Hamas, disrupting an ongoing financial pipeline for the group.

Authorities traced the digital assets to fundraising accounts controlled by Hamas, which have reportedly processed over $1.5 million in virtual currency since October 2024.

Under the directive of Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Justice Department remains committed to dismantling Hamas’ financial operations.

“We will use every tool at our disposal to cut off funding to Hamas,” stated Sue J. Bai, who leads the department’s National Security Division.

U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. emphasized the agency’s commitment to tracking down illicit funds.

“These seizures demonstrate our determination to locate and seize every dollar intended to support Hamas, regardless of its form or location,” he said.

The FBI spearheaded the investigation, tracing the funds through multiple cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges.

Assistant Director David J. Scott of the FBI Counterterrorism Division underscored the significance of the operation, stating that disrupting Hamas’ financial networks is a crucial component of counterterrorism efforts.

As part of the seizure, officials confiscated crypto wallets valued at approximately $89,900 and three accounts holding a combined $111,500, registered under Palestinian individuals in Turkey and other locations.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, along with its Counterterrorism and Cyber Divisions.
